Your Pilgrimage Itinerary...

June 5: Our pilgrimage begins as we depart our local airport for our flight to San Diego, California. Our first visit is to the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá, known as the “Mother of the Alta California Missions.” We will learn the history leading up to this challenging undertaking and see a re-creation of the cloister of St. Junípero Serra, OFM (canonized on September 23, 2015). Before checking into our hotel we will also visit the Mission San Luis Rey de Francia. St. Louis led the crusades to regain the Holy Land for Christ. Overnight Oceanside

June 6: Following breakfast we’re off to visit the Mission San Juan Capistrano, named after the 14th century theologian, one of the most picturesque sites in all of California. Next, we’ll visit the famous Christ Cathedral (the former Crystal Cathedral) in Orange, now the home of the diocese – and tour its stunning façade and the magnificent gardens that surround it. Continue on to visit the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel, aka the“Pride of the Missions” and a quick tour of the LA area. Overnight Ventura

June 7: Following breakfast, we visit the Mission San Buenaventura, named after St. Bonaventure. We then visit the Mission Santa Barbara, known as the “Queen of the Missions.” Following a break for lunch, we’ll enjoy the lovely city of Santa Barbara and afterwards proceed to the unique city of Solvang, where the old world charm of Northern Europe meets the blue skies of Southern California. Overnight Solvang.

June 8: We depart the Santa Barbara area for the scenic drive to Carmel and Monterey. Our first stop along the way is the Mission San Luis Obispo with a quick drive by of Mission Santa Ines. We then proceed to Route 1, which will take us through California’s coast line and through the Big Sur, making stops to observe the Bixby Creek Bridge, Pfeiffer Beach, and McWay Falls. Overnight Monterey

June 9: After breakfast, we’re off to the Mission San Carlos Borroméo del río Carmelo, where  St. Junípero Serra is entombed beneath the sanctuary of this mission church. We’ll view his sarcophagus as well as that of three of his fellow missionaries. We’ll take the day to enjoy the Cannery row and surrounding city for a day at the beach. Overnight Monterey

June 10: This morning we travel to the Mission San Francisco de Asís, in the middle of a busy city and home to the “National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.” After spending the morning at the mission, were off to explore the Golden Gate city. Overnight San Francisco

June 11: Following breakfast, we proceed to the famed Sonoma Wine Region and Marin County area by crossing the Golden Gate Bridge for a visit to the 21st and last of the originally established California Missions: the Mission San Francisco Solano, which is nestled in the wine country 40 miles north of San Francisco and across from the site of the Bear Flag Revolt of 1846. Overnight San Francisco

June 12: With a renewed sense of pilgrimage and an invigorated love of our Catholic faith, we board our plane for the return flight home.
