Our pilgrimage to Fátima begins as we depart from the United States on an overnight flight to Lisbon, Portugal.
Upon arrival into Lisbon, we’ll visit the birthplace of St. Anthony where our spiritual director will lead us in prayer. Following, we will briefly tour this beautiful port city before proceeding to Fátima. While en route to Fátima, we’ll visit Santarém, one of the oldest cities in the world, and the Church of St. Stephen with its famed Eucharistic miracle. Following dinner, we’ll participate in the evening candlelight procession.
Overnight Fatima
Today, we’ll visit the shrine of Our Lady of Fátima and the Capelinha where our Blessed Mother appeared to the three children. Our spiritual director will celebrate Mass at the basilica. We’ll walk together the Way of the Cross, which takes us through Aljustrel, Valinhos, and the Loca do Cabeço. Again, following dinner, there will be an evening candlelight Rosary procession.
Overnight Fatima
We’ll start the day with morning Mass at the Capelinha, followed by a visit to the Church of St. Anthony where the three children were baptized. Next, we’ll visit the walled city of Óbidos with its quaint medieval streets. Tonight, we again join in a candlelight Rosary procession after dinner.
Overnight Fatima
Our schedule today includes a visit to the Atlantic Coast, its beaches, and the markets of Nazaré. We’ll visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré, located high on a hilltop. The Sanctuary memorializes a miracle which occurred in 1182, when a horseman who was about to be carried off the hilltop to his death cried out to the Virgin Mary, through whose intercession he was spared. We will travel to the medieval town of Batalha including its mighty church and the Abbey of Alcobaça. Founded in 1152, the church and monastery are the earliest examples of Gothic architecture in Portugal. After our farewell dinner, we will end our last night in Fátima by joining in a final candlelight Rosary procession.
Overnight Fatima
This morning, we depart for Spain. Our first stop is at the Carmelite Convent where Sr. Lucia spent most of her life. Next, we set off for Porto where we’ll enjoy a tour of a local vineyard. Dinner. Evening arrival into Santiago.
Overnight Santiago de Compostela
Today we will have an opportunity to walk a portion of the “Way of St. James,” followed by a guided tour of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Later, we board a flight to Madrid. Dinner in Madrid.
Overnight Madrid
With a renewed sense of faith and an invigorated love of Our Lady of Fátima, we’ll depart for the return flight home.
