Saint Joseph’s Oratory

Following breakfast, we visit Mount Royal for a panoramic view of the city on our way to spend our morning at St. Joseph’s Oratory, the world’s largest shrine dedicated to St. Joseph. One of the world’s most-visited shrines and holding over 10,000 worshipers, with its dome reaching up to 97 meters, it is second only in height to St. Peter’s in Rome. We’ll visit the original chapel, the Votive chapel, the crypt, and view relics of St. André Bessette. Following a lunch break at the oratory, we visit the Basilica Marie Reine du Monde (Mary, Queen of the World), which serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Montréal, the third largest church in Québec, after St. Joseph’s Oratory and St. Anne de Beaupré. Following our visit, we’re off to the Marguerite Bourgeoys Museum and the Chapelle Notre Dame de Bon Secours. This 300-year-old chapel and museum gives us insight into the life of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys and the early settlers of Montréal. We’ll visit the many exhibition rooms which lead you from the stone crypt to the very top of the tower for a spectacular view of Old Montréal and the Old Port.

Questions pilgrims ask

Short answers to what most people want to know before they put down a deposit.

✓How active is this pilgrimage?
It is a touring pilgrimage by motorcoach, not a walking one. Expect about 2 to 3 miles of walking on a typical day, on the cobbled streets of Old Montréal, the steps and levels of St. Joseph’s Oratory and the climb to the top of the Bonsecours chapel tower. December is cold, so comfortable, waterproof shoes are a must.
✓Traveling alone?
Prices are per person: $650 with four sharing a quad room, or $750 with two sharing a double room. Tell us at registration who each student will share with.
✓What will I spend beyond the price?
Lunches, donations at Masses, souvenirs and laundry. A typical lunch costs about $15 to $20. Tips are at your discretion: as a guide, $8 to $10 per person per day for your tour guide and $6 to $8 for your driver. Passport or passport card costs for adults. Travel insurance if you choose it, and a 3% fee if you pay by card. Abroad, we recommend paying for most things by credit card, which is accepted almost everywhere and comes with protection that cash does not; bring a couple hundred U.S. dollars in cash for emergencies. When a card machine or ATM asks whether to pay in dollars or in the local currency (Canadian dollars in Canada), choose the local currency; it is almost always cheaper.
✓What if I need to cancel?
Cancel in writing. Up to September 5, 2026 (90 days before departure), everything you have paid is returned except $200. After that date, the $450 deposit and any costs we cannot recover are kept. Travel insurance may cover a cancellation, depending on the reason.
✓Who is going?
Students and families of Trinity High School and Saint Joseph Junior High make the pilgrimage together.

Montreal is cold in early December, usually below freezing, with snow possible and early darkness. Bring a winter coat, hat, gloves and warm layers.

What is a pilgrimage?+

A pilgrimage is not a vacation or excursion but a unique spiritual journey that provides many opportunities to deepen your relationship with God and enrich your Catholic faith by bringing Scripture to life. Pilgrimages offer the opportunity to let Christ draw you near.
