Five hundred years at Tepeyac

Our Lady appeared to St. Juan Diego at Tepeyac in December 1531, and the image on his tilma has hung there ever since. 2031 is the five hundredth year. Pilgrims come to the Basilica all year round, so a 2031 pilgrimage can be built for any month, not only for the feast in December.

No program has been announced yet

Neither the Basilica nor the Archdiocese of Mexico has published a program for the anniversary year. That is normal five years out. It also means the hotels and coaches will go to the groups who start first.

Not the same thing as the jubilee running now

A Guadalupan jubilee year is already running, granted for the fiftieth anniversary of the image’s move to the new Basilica, and it closes in October 2027. That is a different occasion and it has its own page. 2031 is five hundred years since the apparitions. A parish can travel for both.

The jubilee running now

If 2031 is too far off for your group, there is a Guadalupan jubilee year open until October 2027, with a plenary indulgence for pilgrims who visit the Basilica. Many parishes will travel for that one and again for the anniversary.Guadalupe Jubilee Year →

Groups of any size

We run groups from a single coach to several hundred pilgrims across many, split across hotels and coaches through the week and brought together for the principal liturgies, with a Canterbury tour manager on the ground throughout.What a pilgrimage is like →

A different kind of group?

We build the same trip for a diocese, a school, a youth group, a lay organisation, or a seminary or religious community. We also build pilgrimages to mark a priest’s anniversary. Tell us what the group is and we will build around it.

Is any of this confirmed?

The anniversary is. Our Lady appeared at Tepeyac in December 1531, so 2031 is the five hundredth year. The program is not. Neither the Basilica nor the Archdiocese of Mexico has published one, and we will not put dates on this page ahead of them.

Why start five years out?

Mexico City has a limited number of hotel rooms near Tepeyac and a limited number of coaches. An anniversary on this scale will fill them. Groups that start early stay close to the Basilica.

What will it cost?

We do not know yet. Registering your interest costs nothing and commits you to nothing, and we will send you a price once the program is set.

Do we have to travel in December?

No. The anniversary of the apparitions falls in December, and 12 December is the busiest day of the year at the Basilica. Pilgrims come to Tepeyac in every month, and a 2031 pilgrimage can be built for whichever month suits your group.

Can a diocese bring a large group?

Yes. We run groups of several hundred pilgrims across multiple coaches. Tell us the number you have in mind and we will plan for it.
