Franciscan University of Steubenville

Steubenville, Ohio

Franciscan University of Steubenville is a Catholic university run by the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular. These pilgrimages are open to its students, alumni, staff and friends, and Canterbury builds and operates them.

Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR, the University’s president and a graduate of its class of 1989, leads a number of these pilgrimages. He walked the five hundred miles of the Camino de Santiago himself and has taken groups back since. He is not on every departure, so check the trip you are looking at to see who is hosting it.

Before you book

Each pilgrimage page carries its own full detail on pricing, payments and what is included. These come up on all of them.

Does Fr. Dave lead every pilgrimage?+
No. He leads a number of them and the rest travel with another priest. The list above and each trip page say who is hosting that departure.
Can I book my own flights?+
You are always welcome to arrange your own flights. Booking your own airfare lets you spend miles, handpick your seats, upgrade directly with the airline, or deviate from the group. Select the land-only option at registration and we will send the arrival details you need to meet the group.
Can I arrive early or stay later?+
Absolutely. If you would like to arrive earlier or depart later than the group, or upgrade your airfare, email hello@canterburypilgrimages.com and we will price the deviation for you. Group flight schedules are sent digitally and by mail 30 days before departure.
What if a pilgrimage does not fill?+
Countless months go into organizing each pilgrimage, so we do our best never to cancel one. In the rare case we do, you may transfer to another trip or to new dates, or receive 100% of what you have paid back to your original payment method within 10 business days.
Is a pilgrimage the same as a tour?+
No. A pilgrimage is not a vacation or an excursion. It is a spiritual journey built around daily Mass, time at sacred sites, and Scripture brought to life. Millions have gone before you looking for a way to physically connect with their faith in Christ.
