All of 2027, at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela
The tomb of the Apostle St. James and the Holy Door
Canterbury’s scheduled pilgrimages that visit Santiago de Compostela during the Holy Year. Whatever is open for booking appears here, and any group can travel on its own dates.
The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela keeps the tomb of St. James the Apostle. Whenever his feast, 25 July, falls on a Sunday, the Church celebrates a Holy Year at Santiago, a privilege going back to the twelfth century and made permanent by Pope Alexander III in 1179. In 2027 the feast falls on a Sunday. The Holy Door opens on 31 December 2026, and the next Holy Year is not until 2032.
A plenary indulgence is granted to the faithful who visit the Cathedral during the Holy Year and pray there, under the usual conditions: sacramental confession, Holy Communion and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father. Walking the Camino is not required.
Every Canterbury itinerary in Santiago gives the group unhurried time at the Cathedral: the Holy Door, the tomb of St. James in the crypt and the embrace of his statue above the high altar. A group with its own priest celebrates Mass in Santiago, with the time requested in advance; a group without one attends the Pilgrims’ Mass at the Cathedral.

Santiago fits easily into a longer pilgrimage through Fátima, Burgos or Lourdes, or a shorter one built around the Cathedral alone. Tell us what you have in mind and we will build it around your dates.
The Holy Door opens on 31 December 2026 and the Holy Year runs through 2027. Santiago is busiest in Holy Week (21 to 28 March) and in the days around the feast of St. James on 25 July, so book early for those weeks. Tell us the window you have in mind and we will advise on dates.
Every pilgrim in your group gets the app. Their itinerary, hotels and flights, the prayers of the day and a way to reach one another, all in one place and kept current as the pilgrimage unfolds.
Your whole group in one thread, so a change of plan reaches everyone at once.
The full day-by-day schedule, always current, in every pilgrim’s pocket.
Where the group is staying each night, with addresses and dates.
Flight details kept alongside everything else, not in a separate email.
The prayers of the day, including the Liturgy of the Hours.
A keepsake record of the shrines your group visits along the way.
Times and meeting points pushed to everyone the moment they change.

“They’re big enough to handle any problem that arises, and small enough to craft truly unique experiences.”

No. The Holy Year and its indulgence are for every pilgrim who comes to the Cathedral. Most of our groups travel by motorcoach; walking a stage of the Camino is an option, not a requirement.
