Saint Joseph’s Oratory

Following breakfast, we visit Mount Royal for a panoramic view of the city on our way to spend our morning at St. Joseph’s Oratory, the world’s largest shrine dedicated to St. Joseph. One of the world’s most-visited shrines and holding over 10,000 worshipers, with its dome reaching up to 97 meters, it is second only in height to St. Peter’s in Rome. We’ll visit the original chapel, the Votive chapel, the crypt, and view relics of St. André Bessette. Following a lunch break at the oratory, we visit the Basilica Marie Reine du Monde (Mary, Queen of the World), which serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Montréal, the third largest church in Québec, after St. Joseph’s Oratory and St. Anne de Beaupré. Following our visit, we’re off to the Marguerite Bourgeoys Museum and the Chapelle Notre Dame de Bon Secours. This 300-year-old chapel and museum gives us insight into the life of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys and the early settlers of Montréal. We’ll visit the many exhibition rooms which lead you from the stone crypt to the very top of the tower for a spectacular view of Old Montréal and the Old Port.

Frequently asked questions

Do students need a passport?+

Adults need a passport book or passport card to cross the land border into Canada and back. U.S. citizens under 16, or under 19 when travelling in a supervised school group, may present a birth certificate instead at land crossings. We will confirm the documents each traveller needs, including any consent letters for minors, before departure.

How active is this pilgrimage?+

The days are full and involve a good deal of walking, including the cobbled streets of Old Montréal, the steps and levels of St. Joseph’s Oratory and the climb to the top of the Bonsecours chapel tower. Comfortable, waterproof shoes are a must.

What is the weather like in early December?+

Montreal is cold in early December, usually below freezing, with snow possible and early darkness. Bring a winter coat, hat, gloves and warm layers.

How do rooms work?+

Prices are per person: $650 in a quad room with four sharing, or $750 in a double room with two sharing. Tell us at registration who each student will share with.

When is the final payment due?+

Final payment was due on September 5, 2026, 90 days before departure. Please call us about any open balance.

Should I buy travel insurance?+

We strongly encourage travel insurance for all of our pilgrims, and we partner with Allianz Travel Insurance to offer affordable coverage. Most of our pilgrims choose the Classic Plan. Insurance can be quoted and purchased after registration.

What is a pilgrimage?+

A pilgrimage is not a vacation or excursion but a unique spiritual journey that provides many opportunities to deepen your relationship with God and enrich your Catholic faith by bringing Scripture to life. Pilgrimages offer the opportunity to let Christ draw you near.

More questions are answered in our Support Center, covering booking, payments, travel insurance, passports and what to expect on pilgrimage.
