What a Catholic Pilgrimage Costs

Most pilgrimages fall between $1,900 and $7,700

Those are real prices from departures open for booking now, per person sharing a double room. A short pilgrimage within the United States runs from about $1,900 for four days to $3,200 for a week. A ten-day pilgrimage to Europe generally runs $4,100 to $5,600, with group flights included on most departures. Two weeks across several countries runs $5,500 to $6,600, and a long-haul pilgrimage such as Japan runs closer to $7,700. Every pilgrimage page on this site shows its own price, and a day pilgrimage close to home can be as little as $175.

What the price covers, and what it does not

A Canterbury price is close to all-in. It covers your hotels, breakfast every day and most other meals, a coach and driver for the whole itinerary, a local guide at each site, entrance fees, the Mass arrangements, and a Canterbury tour manager travelling with the group. On most departures it also covers group flights. Not included is what varies from one pilgrim to the next: travel insurance, the single supplement, gratuities, and the meals left free on the itinerary. Each pilgrimage lists its own inclusions, and the meal codes on the day-by-day say which meals are provided.

What you pay, and when

Registration takes a deposit of $450 per person, of which $200 is non-refundable. The balance is due 90 days before departure, on a date printed on your registration, and payment plans are available if you would rather spread it out. Nothing is owed before you register, a quote costs nothing, and a few major events such as a beatification or World Youth Day run on their own schedule.

What the group leader pays

Nothing. Leading a pilgrimage costs the leader no deposit, no financial guarantee, and no invoice if the group comes in under target. The leader’s own place is earned by the group they bring, and it comes from our suppliers rather than from what the pilgrims pay. Where you go, and how long you stay

Distance sets the floor and nights set the slope. A shrine within the United States costs a fraction of a transatlantic pilgrimage, Europe sits in the middle, and the Holy Land, Mexico and Asia each price differently again. Every extra night adds a hotel, meals, and another day of the coach and the guide, so a seven-day itinerary and a fourteen-day itinerary to the same country are nowhere near the same price. The room you book

A single room costs more, and the difference is the single supplement, shown on each pilgrimage’s pricing. Twin and triple rooms are available too, and the difference matters: a double has one bed, a twin has two. Whether flights are in the price

Most Canterbury pilgrimages are priced with group flights included, which is why the number can look higher than a land-only quote you have seen elsewhere. Group air contracts do not allow deviations, date changes or upgrades, so pilgrims who want to fly from somewhere else, use their own miles or extend their stay take land only instead. Payment plans are available if you would rather pay in smaller amounts before then, and you can pay by credit or debit card, check, ACH bank transfer, Zelle, cash, money order or cashier’s check.
