Terms of Service

Clear terms, no surprises

The terms that apply to every Canterbury pilgrimage: deposits and payments, cancellations, baggage, insurance and liability.

Effective October 22, 2026  ·  Last updated October 22, 2026

These are the terms for booking a pilgrimage with us. They cover your deposit and payments, cancellations, baggage, travel insurance and the limits of our liability. Each pilgrimage page also lists what is and is not included for that trip.

Questions

Email hello@canterburypilgrimages.com or call (800) 653-0017, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm ET. How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy.

Section 01

Who these terms cover

These terms apply to every pilgrimage booked with Canterbury Pilgrimages & Tours, Inc. (“CPT”, “we” or “us”). By registering for a pilgrimage and paying a deposit, you agree to them.

Section 02

Your pilgrimage

Itineraries

Itineraries are prepared and scheduled in advance according to the best information available at the time, and are subject to change by the date of the pilgrimage.

Prices

We reserve the right to adjust the price of a pilgrimage if either of the following occurs:

  • a rise in airfare, for example because of higher fuel costs; or
  • a rise in ground costs, including increases in hotel charges, coach fares, fees and taxes, and other costs caused by changes in the value of the U.S. dollar against foreign currencies.

Hosts, speakers and guests

If anyone named in the itinerary or schedule of speakers is unable to take part, every effort will be made to find a substitute. Whether or not they take part, the pilgrimage will go ahead on the dates listed, and the cancellation terms below apply regardless.

What is not included

What is not included varies by pilgrimage. Please read the “Not included” section on the pilgrimage page for the pilgrimage you are interested in.

Section 03

Deposit and payment

Two payments are due for every pilgrimage.

PaymentAmountWhen it is due
Deposit$450 per person, of which $200 is non-refundableWhen you register
Final paymentThe balance of the pilgrimage price90 days before the original departure date

Deposit

The deposit holds your reservation. $200 of it is non-refundable, although it may be refundable under the conditions of your travel insurance.

If we postpone your pilgrimage

If we postpone a pilgrimage and make that decision more than 90 days before the original departure date, final payment is due 90 days before the new departure date. If we make the decision 90 days or fewer before the original departure date, final payment remains due 90 days before the original departure date.

How to pay

You can pay by credit card or by check. To make a credit card payment by phone, call us at (800) 653-0017.

Section 04

If you cancel

Cancellations must be made in writing, by email to hello@canterburypilgrimages.com or by letter. Your cancellation takes effect on the date we receive it.

When we receive your cancellationWhat is refunded
90 days or more before the original departure dateEverything you have paid, less $200 per person
Fewer than 90 days before the original departure date, including after a postponementEverything you have paid, less the $450 deposit and any non-recoverable expenses we have incurred for your reservation

Non-recoverable expenses

These may include, but are not limited to, charges imposed by airlines, hotels and coach companies, the cost of the staff time spent servicing your reservation, and the cost of using our reservation system, as determined or estimated by CPT. The amount varies with each pilgrimage and the suppliers we work with.

Travel insurance

Cancellation charges may be covered by travel insurance, depending on your reason for cancelling. See Travel insurance below.

Section 05

If we cancel or postpone

CPT may cancel or postpone any pilgrimage at any time up to the departure date.

  • If we cancel a pilgrimage, all money you have paid is returned within 10 business days.
  • If we postpone a pilgrimage, the cancellation terms above remain in effect, and final payment is due as set out under Deposit and payment.

Section 06

Travel insurance

We strongly recommend travel insurance covering personal accident, illness and injury, trip cancellation and baggage. CPT is not responsible for accidents, illness or injury, trip cancellations, or the handling of baggage outside our control.

All categories of insurance can be purchased through us, provided by Allianz Travel Insurance.

Section 07

Baggage

Please travel light: if you cannot carry it, do not bring it.

  • Each pilgrim may bring one suitcase. Baggage handling for one suitcase per person is included in the price wherever possible.
  • Airlines on international flights do not accept suitcases over 50 pounds (subject to change), and overweight fees can be costly.
  • Baggage handling is not available on trains.

Every effort is made to handle luggage carefully, but CPT does not accept liability for lost or damaged luggage or its contents. Travel insurance may cover this.

Flights within Europe

On flights within Europe that are not directly connected to a transatlantic flight, the weight limit is lower. We give you this information in your final travel documents.

Section 08

Flight cancellations and delays

CPT is not responsible for any loss you incur, including lost days of the scheduled pilgrimage, because of a cancelled flight or other cancelled transportation. Please consider travel insurance that covers this kind of loss.

Section 09

Photographs and video

Our representatives may take photographs and video during the pilgrimage and use them in CPT’s marketing. By taking part in the pilgrimage, you authorize CPT to take and use these images and recordings, which may include your image and likeness.

Section 10

Limitation of liability

Suppliers we do not own

Canterbury Pilgrimages & Tours, Inc., and its employees, shareholders, officers and directors (together, “CPT”), do not own or operate any entity that provides goods or services for your pilgrimage, including, for example, lodging, transportation companies, local ground operators (including entities that may use the CPT name), guides, sightseeing companies, entertainment, food or drink providers and equipment suppliers. As a result, CPT is not responsible for any negligent or willful act or failure to act of any person or entity it does not own or control, or for any act or failure to act of any other third party not under its control.

Without limitation, CPT is not liable for any direct, indirect, consequential or incidental damage, injury, death, loss, accident, delay, inconvenience or irregularity of any kind caused by any act or omission beyond its control. This includes any willful or negligent act, failure to act, breach of contract or violation of local law or regulation by any third party such as an airline, train, hotel, bus, taxi, van, local ground handler or guide, whether or not it uses the CPT name, and the financial default or insolvency of any supplier.

Events beyond our control

Similarly, CPT is not responsible for any loss, injury, death or inconvenience caused by delays or schedule changes, overbooking of accommodation, the default of any third party, attacks by animals, injury or death during activities offered by lodging facilities or other third parties, sickness, the lack of appropriate medical care or evacuation to it, weather, strikes, acts of God or government, acts or threats of terrorism, force majeure, war, quarantine, epidemics or the threat of them, criminal activity, or any other cause beyond its control.
