“Gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they should know for salvation.”

Our Lady to Adele Brice, Champion, Wisconsin, 1859

In October 1859 Our Lady gave this mission to a young Belgian immigrant. The Church approved the apparitions in 2010, the only Marian apparitions in the United States with formal approval, and we pray there on October 13.

Arrival in Chicago

We arrive in Chicago and travel to nearby Darien, Illinois, where we celebrate Mass at the National Shrine and Museum of St. Thérèse, a Carmelite pilgrimage site devoted to Thérèse of Lisieux, the “Little Flower,” Doctor of the Church. Served by the Society of the Little Flower, the Shrine holds the largest collection of St. Thérèse relics and memorabilia outside of Lisieux, France, which we venerate before touring the museum and quiet meditation garden. Afterward, we enjoy a panoramic tour of Chicago, including sites connected to the Holy Father’s Midwestern roots, before checking into our hotel in the Rosemont area.

St. Joan of Arc Chapel & Basilica of St. Josaphat

We depart Chicago for Milwaukee, where we tour the Gothic St. Joan of Arc Chapel at Marquette University, a fifteenth-century French chapel transported stone by stone from the Rhône Valley and reassembled on campus, home to a stone on which St. Joan of Arc is said to have prayed before battle. Free time follows for pilgrims to enjoy lunch at their own pace at Milwaukee’s historic public market. We then visit the Basilica of St. Josaphat, a soaring minor basilica built by Milwaukee’s Polish community and modeled on St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, where we celebrate Mass.

St. Francis Xavier Cathedral & National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion

This morning we celebrate Mass at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, seat of the Diocese of Green Bay since 1868 and modeled on a landmark church in Munich, before touring the cathedral. We then continue to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion, site of the only Marian apparition in the United States to receive formal Church approval, where Our Lady appeared to Adele Brice in 1859. After lunch nearby, we have time to pray and visit the grotto, rosary walk, history center, and chapel before continuing to La Crosse.

Frequently asked questions

How active is this pilgrimage?+

This is an active program that covers a good amount of ground each day, with long drives between Chicago, Milwaukee, Green Bay and La Crosse. Expect a wake-up call around 7am, departure by 9am and a return to the hotel between 5pm and 6pm. You should be able to walk 3 to 4 miles a day at a moderate pace, including the paved hillside path up to the Shrine Church at La Crosse.

What is the weather like in October?+

Expect cool autumn weather in Illinois and Wisconsin, with crisp mornings, mild afternoons and the chance of rain. Bring layers, a warm jacket and comfortable walking shoes.

What ID do I need to fly?+

Every adult needs a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another TSA-accepted ID, such as a passport, for the domestic flights. No passport is needed for this pilgrimage.

How do hotel rooms work?+

Rates are per person based on two pilgrims sharing a room. Shared rooms are always doubles with two beds. If you are travelling alone we will try to match you with a roommate of the same gender; if we cannot, the single room supplement applies.

Can I book my own flights?+

Yes. The price includes group airfare, so call us for a price without flights. Tell us at registration so we can line your arrival up with the group’s in Chicago on October 10 and its departure from O’Hare on October 15.

When is the final payment due?+

Final payment is due on July 12, 2027, 90 days before departure. Payment plans are available if you would like to make smaller payments before then.

Should I buy travel insurance?+

We strongly encourage travel insurance for all of our pilgrims, and we partner with Allianz Travel Insurance to offer affordable coverage. Most of our pilgrims choose the Classic Plan. Insurance can be quoted and purchased after registration.

What is a pilgrimage?+

A pilgrimage is not a vacation or excursion but a unique spiritual journey that provides many opportunities to deepen your relationship with God and enrich your Catholic faith by bringing Scripture to life. Pilgrimages offer the opportunity to let Christ draw you near.
